MY THOUGHTS ON DR. AKANNI'S CLASS- ONLINE JOURNALISM

During my attendance in the online journalism class,  i got to fully understand what online journalism means. Online journalism can be also called "digital journlaism". Online Journalism is simply publishing stories online using the internet. There is more to that and it takes different techniques of publishing online. Before i get to that.  I got to understand that online media has more advantage and it is advanced than print or broadcasting media. When you want to carry out a print journalism you will need to consider space, when you are engaged in broadcasting, you will also need to consider time. But in online journalism there are unlimited time and space. You can also attach more that just words in an online media. You can attach pictures to your story and you can also attach videos and audios to your story in an online media. 

 Most journalist have left the medivial age of print Journalism for a new modern journalism known as online journalism. Here is where news, editorials, features, entertainment and sports with other related journaljstic writings are being published. During the intake MAC 317 "ONLINE JOURNALISM". I got to understand the history of online journalism and the founding father of the world wide web "Tim Berners-Lee" that paved the way of the internet and made it a easy way for journalist to engage in online journalism. 

However, the topic of the last class was based on pitfalls of online journalist and how they can rectify their pitfalls if they got caught up in one. 
The first point is plagiarism, this talks about journalist that copy stories from another website and claim the stories asbif it was theirs.  This is none ethical and any journalist that uses pliagarism should give credit to the blog he copied the story from. 

Another point is fake news. Some journalist are lazy and incompetent with their job.  So they tend to report counterfeit news because they do not have the actual accurate story.  The way journalist can go by this is by have reporter at the exact point where the story happened so as to get factual information about what to print online.  

Another point is a the act of deadline.  Some reporters have deadlines and do not know what to report on their sites at times and this always reduce their usee traffic because of their lack of consistency. Journalists should always be alert for breaking news and keeps them selves up to date with news so as not to loose their users.

A CLASS OF MIXED FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS

By Jubril Zainab  I had no intention of taking the course MAC 317- Online Journalism because it is an elective course,  but the other alternative course I had was a "no go area" for me, so I had no choice than to settle for online journalism. My encounter in the class of MAC 317 has been filled with a lot of mixed feelings and emotions, because sometimes, I felt like I fully understood what is being taught in the course and at other times I felt like I have no idea of what is going on.    The First Class for MAC 317 took place at the old sociology class with less than fifty students in attendance.
